Sterling Community Impacts 2008
Sterling Bankers continued to deliver world class banking with big Texas hearts in 2008. Volunteering increased for the fourth consecutive year as our bankers contributed over 10,000 hours of volunteer service to non-profits in Texas. And our corporate financial contributions were awarded to more than 200 deserving non-profit organizations.
Sterling Bankers led and served non-profit agencies delivering needed services to Texans throughout our markets. Our volunteers served on boards, chaired fundraising events, mentored children, provided leadership for Scout troops, and so much more. Fifty-three bankers invested 50 or more volunteer hours, earning the right to designate $500 grants for their favorite charities.
When Hurricane Ike hit Houston on Saturday, September 13, bankers from around the state rose to the challenge to ensure that the needs of our customers, employees and neighbors were met. Employees worked around the clock to enable all banking centers with power to open for business on Monday morning. Specially priced Hurricane Ike Helping Hand Recovery Loans were created to assist customers and employees with storm repairs. Two $25,000 charitable contributions were hand-delivered to American Red Cross and Salvation Army to quickly meet urgent needs. And an Ike Relief Fund was established to assist 40 grateful bankers with urgent, storm-related expenses.
We expanded our March of Dimes campaign to North Texas and our generous bankers leveraged the corporate March of Dimes contribution 4:1, giving more babies a chance for a healthy start. March of Dimes recognized our significant contributions and named Sterling Bank Houston’s #12 fundraising team.
Sterling Bankers made saving lives a priority by participating in Blood Drives every 8 weeks and increasing blood donations 42% over the previous year.
We are enormously grateful to our bankers for sharing their time, talent and treasure in their communities. We offer special thanks and acknowledgement to our many employees and their family members who have bravely served in the U.S. military, protecting the freedom we enjoy.
